ELECTRICAL WORK IN REDFERN

Redfern is a suburb in two minds. There are blocks of Victorian and Edwardian terraces that have barely changed in a century, and across the street there are new apartment buildings, gentrified workers' cottages, and renovations stripped back to brick. The electrical work splits along the same lines — half restoration, half upgrade.

The terraces here are usually our biggest jobs. Original wiring is often cloth-insulated or rubber-sheathed, both well past their working life. Switchboards are small porcelain-fuse units that were sized for one fridge and a few light circuits, now trying to power induction cookers, heat pumps, dryers, and a home office. We rewire from the meter forward, document the new circuits, and provide a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) so the next valuation or sale isn't a problem.

Renovation work is the other constant. Owners gut a terrace, knock out the back wall, add a second storey, and need the electrical fully replanned around the new layout. We come in early — before plaster and joinery — to first-fix the cabling cleanly, then return for second-fix once the rooms are taking shape. It saves rework and saves money.
